CMA Part 1 Updates December 2017

The CMA Part 1 Study Materials have been updated, and all of the updated materials are available for current students to download in My Studies.

Changes in this December 2017 update include:

  • Textbook: Information covering old accounting standards that are no longer tested was removed, topics were re-ordered to follow the LOS order, and some long examples were removed or shortened to focus on the core principles and concepts tested on the exam.
  • Videos: Several videos were re-recorded to reflect changes in accounting standards.
  • ExamSuccess, Essays, and Mock Exams: Questions that included previous accounting standards have been updated, and some questions were re-categorized to match the new textbook.
  • Study Plan: Where necessary, the study plan was updated to reflect the latest updates to the textbooks, questions, and videos.

None of the changes are major, and if you are currently studying Part 1, you do not need to re-study anything. If possible, you can switch to the new textbook when you reach a major new topic, but the previous book can still be used for the exams in 2018 if that is most convenient for you. If you have any questions about these changes and how they relate to your studies, please contact us and we will be glad to assist you.

You can also learn more about the HOCK CMA Textbooks and other exam prep materials if you are not already a HOCK student.

    Hi Mouath,

If you are using a book that is dated 2015, it probably does not have all of the accounting updates in it. I recommend you use the most current version of the book in your studies.

does the content for part 1 that was changed between April 2017 copy and Dec 2017 is material or i can pursue my studying from April 2017 version ?? please advice me what is the best recommendation from you ??

You can find information on what changed in My Studies. Primarily, information on superseded (out of date) accounting standards was removed from the book and the topics in the book were reorganized to follow the order of topics in the Learning Outcome Statements. The questions in ExamSuccess were also reorganized so that they follow the order of the book. You can continue using the April 2017 book. But if you do, just make sure you do not update your installed ExamSuccess because if you do, it will no longer match the book you are using.

ExamSuccess Online and the mobile device app have already been updated to reflect the new order of topics, so you will not have the option to continue using the old database of questions if you use those versions of ExamSuccess.

hi I purchased my books in 2015 , can I used it to take exam 2018 or I have to purchase new one

    • Kevin Hock on December 29, 2017 at 8:07 am

I would not suggest studying for the exams using your 2015 book, since it is now several years out of date. However, you do not need to purchase a new book – you can access the updated version in My Studies at no charge. If you would like a new hard copy, please contact for assistance.
