Waiting for the CMA Exam Results

CMA Exam Results Dates and What to do While Waiting

You will get your exam results approximately six weeks after the end of the month in which you took your CMA Exam.

Testing Month Approximate Date of Score Release

February April 10-13
May July 10-13
June August 10-13
September November 10-13
October December 10-13

How will I get my CMA Exam result?

You will receive an email with your score and can also access the result in your My IMA account. If you have passed both Parts, the IMA will verify your education and experience documents and issue your certification number. A few weeks later, you will receive your certificate by mail.

What to do while waiting for the result?

Regardless of how you felt about the exam, if this was the first exam Part for you, then take a short break from studying, but no more than a week. If you take more than a week off, it will be harder to start studying again later.

After the break:

  • If you feel that you did well and likely passed, then start studying the next Part.
  • If you are 100% sure that you failed because you (for example) left one essay blank or knew that you were very weak in multiple topics, then start preparing to re-take that same Part. You should also assess the study materials that you used and determine if your they contributed to your result. If there were questions on the exam that you did not think that the material covered adequately, you might want to consider looking into other study materials for your second attempt.

Still not sure what to do?

If this was your second exam, now is the time to submit the documents that prove your education and experience requirements.

Why does it take so long to get the result?

While the multiple-choice questions are graded automatically by the computer, the essays are graded by people. Learn more about how your CMA Exam score is determined and the CMA Exam scaled score and percentages.

What should I do if I failed the exam?

About two weeks after the results are available, you will receive an email from Prometric with the Performance Report showing your performance on each key topic from the exam. Use the report to focus your study time on your weak areas. However, remember to review all topics before you re-take the exam.
